Fatrat's Form Guide To The LMRA WA Title
This Saturday sees the Late Models head down to Manjimup for the running of the Western Australian Championship, so I started thinking exactly who the favorites were and just what sort of money you might get for them.
I’ve considered their form, not just in recent meetings, but also in the big shows in years past. Hey I know I’m going to upset some fans and some drivers with my predictions, but toughen up princess, it is only a light hearted look at who may take out the crown.
USA Odds - Brad Blake (Blake Auto Centre #0)
USA odds you might ask, well Blake’s form is that good that if you wanted to put money on him, for every dollar you put on him I’d only give you 91 cents back when, not if, he wins. Blake is a big meeting specialist and I think has most of the field beaten before he gets off the trailer. Reportedly bringing two cars for the weekend just to show how serious he is about winning this one.
$3.00 – Warren and Jamie Oldfield (Ultratune Morley/Shakerz Bakerz cars #15 & 51)
Both deserve to be on the second line of betting as they have been the only two to take it to Blake more often than anyone else in the field this season. Only mechanical and wrecking problems have stopped these two, and if they can stop that, they might just pop up as #1 in W.A. ‘Jake and Elwood’ are to be considered the best of the rest in 09/10.
$4.50 – Jay Cardy (Glory Constrution/BBT Steel #52)
Would like nothing better than to do well in front of local sponsor T.L. Dozing and has improved as each meeting progresses. Trips to the USA in recent years have seen him become more consistent and could be the one to pop up if things go his way. Good money for a podium, almost certain top five finisher.
$5.00 and drifting - Brad Ludlow (DiCandilo Steel City/Lucas Oils #92) and Ryan Halliday (GT Radials/Stirling Low Loaders #99)
You can never discount former champions and both of these racers have popped up for good results at the LMRA bigger events. Lack of form this season for differing reasons has hurt their odds, but watch out at the end for two of the guys working towards ‘veteran status’ in this division.
$7.50 - Ben Ludlow (DiCandilo Steel City/Lucas Oils #9)
A true veteran who knows how to win, mechanical woes have seen this once top runner falling down the list, but could bounce back with a strong run this weekend. One to watch out for.
$8.00 – Craig Vosbergen (Worldwide Machinery/Racin Tyres and Accessories #8)
A true wet and heavy track specialist that wows the crowd with his back it in at all cost style. Is returning from a spell and may find it hard as a lack of race fitness will hinder him.
$12.00 -Michael Holmes (Ozmine Drill Consumables/Holmes and Associates #91) and Jac Dolmans Jnr (Spaman/Ozmine #46)
These two former AMCA champs have been quietly working their way up the LMRA ladder, albeit not many laps up their sleeves especially in the case of Dolmans. Could be contenders for a top five if others have problems in the all important final.
$13.00 Mark Duncombe (Centre Ford/Enviro Tint #7)
Why thirteen dollars? Well I firmly believe that Duncombe is the unluckiest racer in nearly all the divisions here in W.A. Not sure why this happens but if something goes wrong Duncombe can often be found in the middle of it. But if all the homework has been done in preparation of the blue and red beast, could be the roughie that everyone is looking for.
$21.00 – Kevin Bell (Norwestar/Fuchs #5) and Bert Vosbergen (Worldwide Machinery/Racin Tyres and Accessories #4)
These two veterans of sedan racing in West Oz have shown some form last time out but their inconsistency in recent years has affected their price. Can get around the track fast enough, just need to do it for the entire distance. Don’t discount these two.
$30.00 – Jaron Crane (Crane Haulage/Diversified Contracting #27) and Matt Goodlad (Diversified Contracting/JRH Signs #18)
I had to give these two second generation drivers the same odds because both their cars look the same. Close mates (Not that there’s anything wrong with that) who seem to be at the same part of the track together, unfortunately not often enough at the pointy end of the field.
$40.00 – Jason Moyle (Moyle Engines #6)
Another second generation driver who is probably lacking laps to be considered a serious contender for the title, but the Bunbury based racer has shown glimpses of form at times in the past.
$50.00 and upwards – The rest of the field
Too many to list but would surprise many if any of the other runners could make an impression in what is a big field of twenty four drivers as we posted this release. Hey this is speedway and who knows what can happen.
Will be one of the most hotly contested events in years and if you want to be there gates will be open early to secure the best position to witness this great event, the 2009/10 W.A. Late Model Championship.
