They Were Fired Up @ The Late Model Fireball

As I sit here at the Kalgoorlie Airport I am in ore of the near capacity Goldfields crowd last night at Kalgoorlie International Speedway, round 1 of the Champion Industries Pro Dirt Series for the WA Dirt Late Models kicked off in style with action a plenty from the start of hot laps.

With the threat of thunderstorms upon us for a second year running, the crowd was filling slowly, but come race time there wasn’t a spare spot around the venue. Some of the cars on hand in the pits were sensational, presentation was out standing.

A few cars were unable to make it to shipping container problems & other issues, but the cars that turned up for this event put on a display of racing that blew my mind wide open.

We lost a couple of cars during the first round of heats in the #3 A1 Patios Rocket of Terry Chamberlain & the 71 Swartz of Phil Richards to engine problems, but they weren’t terminal and will be back for the opening night of the Perth Motorplex.

Heat race action would see victories to Brad Ludlow (2), Ben Ludlow 1 & Brad Blake also with one heat race victory.

Time for the BCM dash for cash & Brad Ludlow got out in style and blew them away breaking the track record apart, following him home was “The 0 Show” Brad Blake, “Shorty” Ben Ludlow, young gun “JC” Jay Cardy, Warren Oldfield & Craig Vosbergen.

The Champion Industries Pro Dirt Series main event in a word was AWESOME, the pure speed of Brad Blake in a borrowed machine for the weekend & the duel for second, third & fourth between Ben Ludlow, Craig Vosbergen & Warren Oldfield was outstanding and worth the 7 hour trip on it’s own, they battled for 18 laps with never more than two car lengths between them at any time, while this was happening Brad Blake just opened up a bigger lead to secure victory in Round 1 of the Champion Industries Pro Dirt Series, the crowd went off, with cars around the bank flicking their lights off & on while Brad did a victory lap to the awesome Kalgoorlie Speedway crowd, this gives Brad a great lead heading into round 2 at the Firecracker 50 at manjimup Speedway on December 6th.

The top 6 positions were as follows Brad Blake, Ben Ludlow, Craig Vosbergen, Warren Oldfield & rookie sensation Jason Moyle.

After the race presentations were held trackside with Rob Dewar from Champion Canopies on hand for presentations, he commented to me on the mic “If this is anything to go by for the first round, I cant wait for the rest of the season, I am right behind these guys & their quest to be one of Australia’s premier divisions & I am here for the long haul”

Brad Blake’s response as he held back tears after the race “I am speechless tonight, its been a tough few weeks for all of us with my mum very ill in hospital I cant wait to tell her. My dad & I just chipped away at this all night, we might not have been as quick as past years but we got it & that’s what counts the most, thanks to Ziggy for the use of the car, my dad, your great mate, & my wife Jodie thanks to everybody at Kalgoorlie Speedway”
