Vosbergen King At Albany
He went in as one the favorites and Craig Vosbergen came away with the win in the King of the Ring 30 lap final at Albany’s Atwell Park Speedway.
After a night that saw not only himself and others hit hard with penalties, Vosbergen climbed to the top of the LMRA Throne to win the final, after some of the more fancied contenders fell away with mechanical woes during round three of the Champion Canopies Pro Dirt Series.
Brad Blake led the field away early, leading Marc Giancola, Vosbergen and Warren Oldfield in a what was an excellent display of sedan action in front of the large crowd that had come to see these thundering big machines battle it out for the first time on the Albany bullring.
Early on trouble struck as firstly Giancola, and then a few laps later Blake, headed infield as mechanical woes struck these two fancied warriors. This gave the lead to Vosbergen who started a titanic battle with Oldfield.
After many laps of wheel to wheel, side by side racing, Oldfield, who had put his nose underneath the leader on many occasions, saw this brilliant effort come to an end when he had a half spin. The only consolation was that he had enough of a break to return to the track still in second place.
As this was going on a great battle shaped up for third as Jamie Oldfield, Jay Cardy, Esperance youngster Matt Goodlad and the impressive Matt Noakes put on a show for third.
Unfortunately Jamie Oldfield would fall back through the pack and Cardy spun to the infield, losing a lap in the process. In the end Goodlad ran down Noakes to earn third place in the final laps.
In the end Vosbergen took the comfortable win in front of a very appreciative crowd, over Oldfield, Noakes and Goodlad.
Earlier heat wins went the way of Blake with two wins, while Giancola and Vosbergen earned one apiece.
All in all the LMRA put in another fine display of racing at the tight Albany circuit, a place where both the racers, and the crowd, love to be at.
